Prevention before reaction

Three flagship programmes strengthen Community Immunity across communities, schools, and Africa's next generation of leaders — each addressing a critical layer of the Community Immunity Continuum.

Community Shield

Strengthening immunity from the ground up

VOCC's flagship community-based prevention and resilience-building programme. It works directly with community leaders, parents, faith leaders, traditional leaders, women, youth groups, and local stakeholders to strengthen Community Immunity and build resilience against extremist ideologies before they take root.

Through community engagement, prevention awareness, leadership development, and community action planning, the programme helps communities recognise vulnerabilities early, strengthen protective factors, promote social cohesion, and know how to respond and access support. A key feature is the development of Community Resilience Ambassadors who serve as local champions for prevention and positive social action.

Primary goal. To strengthen community resilience and reduce vulnerability to extremist ideologies through prevention, awareness, participation, and collective action.

School Resilience Programme

Schools as protective environments

A school-based initiative designed to strengthen the protective factors that help young people resist extremist ideologies, navigate complex social and digital environments, and contribute positively to their schools and communities.

Through resilience education, critical thinking, responsible digital citizenship, prevention awareness, educator engagement, and student leadership development, the programme helps schools support prevention and early intervention. A key component is the establishment of Resilience Clubs — safe spaces for learners to build leadership skills and peer support — alongside student Resilience Ambassadors.

Primary goal. To strengthen learner resilience, reduce vulnerability to extremist ideologies, and transform schools into environments that actively promote prevention, belonging, critical thinking, and positive youth development.

Youth Leadership & Innovation Fellowship

Africa's next generation of resilience leaders

A pan-African fellowship that brings together promising young leaders to develop innovative solutions, research, policy ideas, and community-based approaches that strengthen resilience and contribute to a more secure Africa.

Fellows work across design thinking, research, and policy — producing publications, innovation proposals, and community projects that feed directly into VOCC's wider research and knowledge platforms.

Primary goal. To develop a growing pan-African network of young resilience leaders equipped to advance Community Immunity in their own communities.
